We are not a typical turtle hatchery!

The TCP is unlike the numerous "turtle hatcheries" on the South West coast. The "In-situ" conservation method is very much better than those employed by the hatcheries because;

  • It avoids the damaging effects of moving eggs from their natural nest.
  • It avoids the fatal effects of retaining hatchlings in captivity for the first few vital days of their life.
  • The financial incentive for community participation is orientated toward the conservation work and away from turtle egg collection.

Adopt a Turtle!

TCP raises funds and awareness for the conservation of Sri Lankan marine turtles through its "Sea Turtle Adoption Campaign". By adopting a sea turtle for US $ 40.00 for three months US $ 75.00 for six months US $100.00 for one year and US $ 150.00 for two years) you can contribute to save the nesting females and to the continuation of the community based environmental resource management activities.

What you receive?

Adopters receive the following:

  • An exclusive T-shirt
  • An adoption certificate
  • Two different sheets of 12 different turtle stickers
  • TCP's bi annual newsletter "Turtle news"
